Join our true-crime talk
June is National Crime Reading Month and I'm delighted to be joining three other authors to discuss our favourite non-fiction case studies…
National Crime Reading Month is a celebration of a genre millions of people enjoy enormously.
Throughout June, crime authors will be discussing great novels, do readings and reveal the secrets of their craft.
While the focus is, of course, on fiction, there is also a cell of non-fiction crime writers within the ranks of the Crime Writers’ Association.
This year four of us will be doing a Zoom talk about the true-crime works that have impressed us the most. Everyone’s invited to sit in.
Below is a rundown of writers and books we have selected to showcase. The range covers unsolved cases, studies of victims, epic manhunts, forensics and gangsters.
Sarah Bax Horton – The Hunt for the 60s’ Ripper (Robin Jarossi), No Ordinary Day (Matt Johnson, John Murray), To Hunt a Killer (Julie Mackay, Robert Murphy)
Dr Angela Buckley – The Killer of Little Shepherds (Douglas Starr), The Five (Hallie Rubenhold), Murder by the Book (Claire Harman)
Robin Jarossi – Manhunt: The Night Stalker (Colin Sutton), Killers of the Flower Moon (David Grann), Mapping Murder (David Canter)
Dan Smith – The Profession of Violence (John Pearson), The Jigsaw Murders (Jeremy Craddock), Midnight in Peking (Paul French)
Anyone who’s been engrossed by true-crime books or fascinated by an intriguing podcast is invited to sit in on our Zoom talk.
There will also be the opportunity to ask questions. We’re hoping for a lively evening – and it’s all free.
It’s on Thursday 13 June 2024 at 7-8pm. Just click here to register for a link to the talk.
